Wool rugs charm with their comfort, resilience and ease of care. The wools used for rugs are springy and resistant to crushing. Handmade wool rugs, whether tufted, woven or knotted, offer excellent colourfastness. They combine visual comfort, acoustic comfort – as the pile absorbs sound – and everyday comfort, acting as a natural humidity regulator. The scaled structure of wool fibre prevents dirt from becoming embedded and makes cleaning easier. To give wool more loft and lustre when it is used in a looped pile, polyester is blended with the fibre before spinning, giving the yarn a fluffier appearance. This addition in no way alters the qualities of the rug; on the contrary, it enhances its thermal and acoustic insulation performance.
